We have services at 11:00 a.m. and 7:45 p.m.
Our servants for the week include.....
Rev. Dr. Jason Dees
Jason is the pastor of Christ Covenant in Atlanta. He is married to Paige and they have 3 children Emery Anna, John Kellis, and Raynor. He has been a senior pastor since 2004 in Indiana, Georgia, and Alabama. Jason grew up in Huntsville, AL and earned his bachelors degree from Auburn University, and a Masters of Divinity and PhD from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. Jason loves the outdoors, travel, and most of all spending time with his family. We are excited to have Jason with us this year, and he will preaching Friday night through Sunday night.
Rev. Darris Baker
Rev. Darris Baker is certainly no stranger to Shingleroof. Darris served as our host pastor for several years when he was senior pastor at McDonough First UMC. Darris has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Columbus State University, and taught public school music for a few years. Called into ministry, he entered and earned the Master of Arts in Religious Education degree (emphasis, youth ministry) at Southwestern Theological Seminary. After 22 years of serving as a youth minister, he entered the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and earned the Master of Theological Studies and the Master of Divinity degrees. We are blessed to have Darris return to Shingleroof to preach for us on Monday morning.
Rev. John Ed Mathison
We are so excited to have Dr. John Ed Mathison preaching again at Campmeeting. John Ed has become a regular for us at Shingleroof, and we are always thrilled when we can have him lead us in our services. John Ed Mathison retired in June 2008 after 36 years of serving as the senior minister of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church. John Ed is currently leading a non-profit ministry designated as the John Ed Mathison Leadership Ministries and is speaking at churches, conferences, and leadership training programs on a local, national and global scale. We are fortunate to have John Ed back with us again for 2018. John Ed will be preaching for us from Monday night through our closing service on Thursday night. Welcome back John Ed.
Rev. Carol Cook
We are pleased to welcome Carol Cook to Shingleroof Campmeeting, and look forward to having her join us for her first year serving our pastoral staff. Carol was born in Atlanta and grew up in Monroe County. She answered her call to the ministry at the age of 24 after beginning to work as a part-time Choir Director in a United Methodist Church. She is a graduate of Tift College, and has her Master of Divinity degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Since her ordination in 1989, she has served six different churches as pastor and as the District Superintendant for the LaGrange District. Carol is married to Scott and has a son and a daughter-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren. Carol is currently serving as pastor of the McDonough First United Methodist church. She loves Campmeeting, and is very excited to join us this year at Shingleroof.
Mr. Doug Stroup
We are blessed to have Doug Stroup come and to be our song leader
again this year. Doug has been with us many times in the past providing
special music on his own, with his family of singers, and more recently with the
Peach State Quartet. Doug was saved at the age of 10 and started singing
for the Lord that same year. He and his wife, Amy, met at church and were
married in 1988. They have been blessed with seven children, Doug, Andy,
Anna, Dora, Amelia Grace, Amanda Joy and Della Rose. Doug became the new
owner of The Peach State Quartet in 2009 when the previous owner, Tom Cabaniss,
went home to be with the Lord. Doug considers it an honor and a privilege to
carry on the legacy and ministry of the group. His favorite scripture
verse is Hebrews 12:2. Doug will be able to lead our singing for the
entire week this year.
Welcome back Doug.
Welcome back Doug.
Ms. Melissa Hensel
On the piano for the entire week, we welcome back Melissa Hensel. For many at Shingleroof, Melissa is as much a part of this week as putting your feet in the cool waters of the spring. We have counted on her for so long, we are just not sure what we would do without her. Melissa has been playing the Shingleroof piano now for more than 30 years, and we are very blessed to have her as part of our campmeeting experience.
Ms. Amy May
We always have plenty of fun things for the kids to do at Shingleroof. This year we are excited to welcome back Ms. Amy to Shingleroof, to lead the children's activities. We want all of the kids to come down to the pavilion every weekday afternoon at 2:00 for a fun time of crafts and games led by Ms. Amy. Ms. Amy May joins us again this year and has a lot of things planned for your children. Who will be the first to burst a water balloon on Ms. Amy?
Special Music for all Services
Music will be provided by many soloists, local groups and choirs from the community. We are excited to welcome back our choirs that have been singing for Shingleroof for many years now, and thank them for their continued service. We also welcome back The Jonesmen Quartet, and The Peach State Quartet, and Bear Creek Revival; and we look forward to having them share their music with us again. More to come so check back.
