Rev. Dr. George Mathison

We are excited to welcome back one of our favorite preachers, Dr. George Mathison.  Dr. Mathison is the Senior Minister of the Auburn United Methodist Church in Auburn, Alabama.   Dr. Mathison is the author of seven books: Positive Thoughts from A Perfect Season....And Beyond; Winning Thoughts for Any Season....of Life; Inspiring Thoughts for Each Season...of the Year; Encouraging Thoughts...for the Good and Bad Seasons of Life; Prayerful Thoughts...for Daily Living; Healing Thoughts...to Mend Hurting Hearts; Peaceful Thoughts....for the Stormy Seasons of Life.   In 2005, he was selected by the Auburn Civitan Club in 2005 as Auburn's Citizen of the Year.  Dr. Mathison served as Team Chaplain for the Auburn University Football Team for six years.   Dr. Mathison and his wife Monteigne, an Art Teacher at Drake Middle School in Auburn, have been married since 1970. They have one daughter, Mallory, a graduate of The University of Alabama. Mallory lives and works in Atlanta.  Don't ask him to play tennis unless you are prepared to get beat.  We look forward to our services with Dr. George Mathison.

Rev. Jake Deshler

We are glad to have Jake Deshler with us this year.  Jake is the Minister to Students at First Baptist in Jonesboro.  Jake says, "I have come to understand that in life I am an includer. Not just a normal communicator, but one of who seeks people out instead of waiting to be sought after. My life and career are directed toward Christian Ministry. I use my passions to connect with others, build relationships, show others what true life (and living it to the full) really looks like. When there are problems, I enjoy the challenge of overcoming and restoring. My goal is to work in ministry and serve others so that they may see the life of Jesus through mine. I strive to put others first and dedicate myself to sharing the gospel. I am excited by new challenges and tasks."  Jake's has a new task as he joins the preaching team here at Shingleroof for 2019.  We welcome Jake and thank him for being with us this year.

John has served as the Lead Pastor of Restoration City Church in Washington, DC since it was planted in October of 2014.  Restoration City exists to see spiritual, relational and cultural restoration in our nationís capital.  John is a passionate communicator with a deep desire to see the Word of God transform individuals, neighborhoods and cities.  Prior to Restoration City , John served at Mclean Bible Church in the Northern Virginia suburbs and The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham , NC .  John spent his first seven years at McLean leading The Gathering, MBCís college ministry, and the last three as the Teaching Pastor at Frontline, MBCís ministry for young professionals.  His time at The Summit was spent as a church planting resident preparing to lead Restoration City .  John and his wife, Laura, live in Alexandria , VA with their two boys, Jack and Aidan.  We are so blessed to have John and his family leading and living with us this year.  By the way, you can keep up with John online through Twitter (@JohnGMcGowan), his blog (www.johnmcgowanblog.com) and Restoration City ís website (www.restorationcitydc.com).

Rev. Carol Cook

We are pleased to welcome Carol Cook to Shingleroof Campmeeting, and look forward to having her join us for her first year serving our pastoral staff.  Carol was born in Atlanta and grew up in Monroe County.  She answered her call to the ministry at the age of 24 after beginning to work as a part-time Choir Director in a United Methodist Church.  She is a graduate of Tift College, and has her Master of Divinity degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology.  Since her ordination in 1989, she has served six different churches as pastor and as the District Superintendant for the LaGrange District.  Carol is married to Scott and has a son and a daughter-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren.  Carol is currently serving as pastor of the McDonough First United Methodist church.  She loves Campmeeting, and is very excited to join us this year at Shingleroof.

  Mr. Doug Stroup

We are blessed to have Doug Stroup come and to be our song leader again this year.  Doug has been with us many times in the past providing special music on his own, with his family of singers, and more recently with the Peach State Quartet.  Doug was saved at the age of 10 and started singing for the Lord that same year. He and his wife, Amy, met at church and were married in 1988.  They have been blessed with seven children, Doug, Andy, Anna, Dora, Amelia Grace, Amanda Joy and Della Rose.  Doug became the new owner of The Peach State Quartet in 2009 when the previous owner, Tom Cabaniss, went home to be with the Lord. Doug considers it an honor and a privilege to carry on the legacy and ministry of the group.  His favorite scripture verse is Hebrews 12:2.  Doug will be able to lead our singing for the entire week this year.   Welcome back Doug.

Ms. Melissa Hensel

On the piano for the entire week, we welcome back Melissa Hensel.  For many at Shingleroof, Melissa is as much a part of this week as putting your feet in the cool waters of the spring.  We have counted on her for so long, we are just not sure what we would do without her.  Melissa has been playing the Shingleroof piano now for more than 30 years, and we are very blessed to have her as part of our campmeeting experience.

Seth and Amy Berkebile

For the majority of both of their lives, Seth and Amy Berkebile have been members of the Methodist church. Currently, they are members at Forsyth United Methodist Church where they are both very active in youth activities and mission trips. In the past during college breaks, Seth worked in the churchís after school program. While in college, he was a part of Campus Outreach where he led bible studies and discipleship groups. During Amyís time in college, she served a church working with the children in the nursery. They have both been heavily involved in mission trips to many different places including to Glory Ridge, North Carolina where they are both team leaders and are responsible for leading devotions. After graduating college, Seth and Amy both furthered their passion for youth by becoming teachers and coaches. They both teach junior high at the Academy for Classical Education and Seth coaches football and soccer while Amy coaches softball and soccer. They are also currently serving as youth pastor interns for the summer at FUMC.

Ms. Amy May

We always have plenty of fun things for the kids to do at Shingleroof.  This year we are excited to welcome back Ms. Amy to Shingleroof, to lead the children's activities.  We want all of the kids to come down to the pavilion every weekday afternoon at 2:00 for a fun time of crafts and games led by Ms. Amy.  Ms. Amy May joins us again this year and has a lot of things planned for your children.  Who will be the first to burst a water balloon on Ms. Amy?
